Mount Rushmore National Memorial


Carved into the Black Hills near Keystone, Mount Rushmore National Memorial features 60 foot depictions of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. On site trails and exhibits help you understand how the sculpture was planned and executed. Work officially began on October 4, 1927, and the National Park Service notes the monument was completed in 1941 after fourteen years of construction

Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway

Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway winds through towering limestone cliffs, dense pine forest, and dramatic rock formations in the northern Black Hills. This paved route follows Spearfish Creek and offers pullouts for photos, hiking access, and seasonal color that draws visitors each fall. Popular stops include Bridal Veil Falls and Roughlock Falls, where short trails lead to cascading water framed by canyon walls.

Main Street Square

Main Street Square sits in the heart of downtown Rapid City and serves as a year round gathering space for community events. The plaza features an ice skating rink in winter and an interactive fountain during warmer months. Throughout the year, it hosts concerts, festivals, and outdoor movies. You will also find the City of Presidents bronze statues displayed along nearby sidewalks.

Reptile Gardens

Reptile Gardens is a long running Black Hills attraction known for its extensive collection of reptiles from around the world. The campus includes indoor reptile exhibits, a large greenhouse style Sky Dome, and outdoor habitats. Daily programs highlight snakes, alligators, and birds, along with educational presentations for families. The facility is recognized for housing one of the largest collections of reptile species on display.

Watiki Water Park

Year round indoor water fun is the focus at WaTiki® Indoor Waterpark Resort in Rapid City. The park includes multiple slides, pools, and play areas designed for families who want an all weather activity. A lazy river style experience and dedicated spaces for kids help spread out the action. WaTiki® promotes a 30,000 square foot indoor waterpark footprint, making it a major regional option.

The Journey Museum

The Journey Museum in Rapid City presents the history and culture of the Black Hills through interactive exhibits and curated collections. Combining artifacts, multimedia displays, and educational programming, the museum's exhibits trace the story of the Black Hills from ancient formation to modern community life.

1880 Train

Riding the 1880 Train puts you on a historic rail line between Hill City and Keystone in the Black Hills. The steam powered excursions cover a 10 mile leg each way, with narration that shares stories from the mining districts and communities served by the original route. Round trip rides total about 20 miles. The railroad calls itself the oldest continuously operating standard gauge tour railroad in the nation.

Tally's Silver Spoon

Downtown Rapid City is home to Tally's Silver Spoon, a long running local restaurant with a modern approach. Its history traces back to the 1930s, when Tally and Betty Winter opened The Bright Spot Cafe. Today, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, pairing classic diner roots with chef-driven plates.

Wild Sage Kitchen and Cocktails

At Wild Sage Kitchen and Cocktails in Rapid City, the focus is casual fine dining with a menu that blends familiar flavors with contemporary touches. The restaurant highlights craft cocktails alongside lunch and dinner options, making it an easy pick for a sit down meal after a day in the Black Hills. Its menus include a dedicated beverage list with multiple cocktail builds, including an Old Fashioned style entry.

Gaslight Dining Saloon

Located in downtown Rapid City, Gaslight Dining Saloon operates inside a historic building that reflects the area’s Old West character. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner with a menu centered on steaks, seafood, and hearty American fare. Its interior features wood accents and period details that connect to the city’s frontier past. Prime rib is one of the regularly featured entrées on the dinner menu.

Alpine Inn

In the heart of Hill City, Alpine Inn combines lodging with a well known on site restaurant that draws evening crowds during the Black Hills travel season. The dining room is especially recognized for its simple steakhouse style dinner service. Guests choose from a focused menu that traditionally includes filet mignon served with salad and a baked potato. The building dates back to 1884.
