Sky Dome

The Sky Dome is the heart of Reptile Gardens and houses one of the world's largest collections of reptiles under one roof. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits featuring snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs, and crocodilians from around the globe. Informational displays introduce each species while explaining its habitat, behavior, and unique adaptations. 

Throughout the exhibit, you'll encounter colorful chameleons, impressive pythons, venomous snakes, and rare reptiles that are difficult to see elsewhere. Educational presentations and keeper talks provide additional opportunities to learn about reptile conservation and animal care.

Giant Tortoises

The Giant Tortoises are among the park's friendliest and most beloved residents. Visitors can observe these gentle giants up close while learning about their incredible longevity, slow-paced lifestyle, and natural habitats. During certain times of the day, guests may even have opportunities to interact with the tortoises under staff supervision. 

Interpretive signs explain the conservation challenges facing giant tortoise species around the world and the efforts being made to protect them. Their calm personalities make this exhibit especially popular with families and younger visitors.

Prairie Dog Town

Prairie Dog Town provides a fun opportunity to observe one of the Black Hills' most recognizable native animals. Visitors can watch prairie dogs scurry through their tunnels, stand watch from small mounds, and communicate with one another using their distinctive calls. Interpretive displays explain the important role prairie dogs play in maintaining healthy prairie ecosystems. 

Children especially enjoy watching the colony's playful behavior and constant activity. The exhibit also offers insight into the many other wildlife species that depend on prairie dog colonies throughout the Great Plains.

Maniac the Giant Crocodile

One of the park's most famous attractions is Maniac, an enormous saltwater crocodile that impresses visitors with both his size and strength. Informational exhibits explain the biology of crocodiles, their hunting behaviors, and the differences between crocodiles and alligators. 

Guests often gather during feeding demonstrations to watch trained staff showcase Maniac's incredible power from a safe distance. The exhibit also highlights the importance of crocodile conservation and the role these apex predators play in their native ecosystems.

Avian Avenue

Avian Avenue introduces visitors to a wide collection of colorful tropical birds from around the world. The beautifully landscaped habitat is home to parrots, macaws, cockatoos, and many other fascinating species known for their intelligence and vibrant plumage. 

Educational presentations teach guests about bird behavior, communication, and conservation while showcasing the birds' remarkable abilities. Depending on the day's schedule, visitors may even see free-flight demonstrations featuring birds soaring overhead.
